On May 22, China's first offshore Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) project was commissioned at the Enping 15-1 platform in the eastern South China Sea, a step forward on the Chinese CCUS technological upgrade The project is expected to inject over 1 million tons of carbon dioxide on a large scale over the next decade and drive an additional 200,000 tons of crude oil production. The Enping 15-1 platform is currently the largest offshore oil production platform in Asia. The Enping 15-1 oilfield it develops features a high content of carbon dioxide. After commissioning, the project can capture, purify, and pressurize the carbon dioxide, a by-product during oilfield development., and injected it into underground oil reservoirs through a CCUS well to enhance oil recovery, pioneering a new model of marine energy recycling. |
