On September 17 to 19, the 10th Annual Meeting of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) was held in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. During the international seminar on deepwater technology development, Mr. Zhou Shouwei, vice president of CNOOC, delivered the subject report with the title of "South China Sea: Challenges and Opportunities of Deepwater Development", in which he introduced the challenges of deepwater oil and gas development and China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC)'s experiences, targets and strategies in this field.

The theme for this year's meeting was "Scientific Development and Social Responsibilities". More than 10,000 professionals across the country and abroad were present at the meeting.

Li Qingping, Fan Mo and Xie Bin, deepwater experts of CNOOC made respective reports during the meeting. CNOOC's achievements in deepwater development were highly recognized and commented by the present professionals.

The Annual Meeting is the largest comprehensive event that CAST organizes on a regular basis. Since 1999, the Annual Meeting of CAST has been held in nine cities. The aim of the Annual Meeting is to provide a platform for science and technology professionals to discuss new research, emerging trends and cross-disciplinary issues related to the country's economic and social development. It also offers an opportunity for scientists and engineers to communicate with the general public, the government and enterprises.
