On July 8th, the last batch of CNOOC helicopters returned from the earthquake-hit area in Sichuan Province. They had well served their duty in the past 55 days.
After the Wenchuan earthquake, CNOOC urgently dispatched 14 helicopters that were in the service of the offshore production to fly to Sichuan Province and join the national disaster-response system. The helicopters were called "air lifeline" by the people in the earthquake-hit area.
During the 55 days, the last 4 helicopters had flied over 90 sorties in Wenchuan, Beichuan, Tangjiashan and Yingxiu areas under the harsh climatic conditions and unknown geographical circumstances. The crews had totally transported over 300 passengers, including the wounded personnel, soldiers, policemen, firemen, the medical relief staff, water conservancy experts and volunteers. They also delivered a group of rare wild animals, and over 3 tons of disaster relief supplies.
