CNOOC made an announcement on the notification of the second round of bidding for areas in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, Eastern Part of the Ying Ge Hai Basin and the South Yellow Sea Basin, for the cooperative exploration and development with foreign enterprises. The areas calling for bid include 22 blocks, covering an area of 108,300 sq. km.

Hu Yaobang, the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party made an inspection tour to China Offshore Oil Bohai Corporation and wrote an inscription "To create an Offshore Daqing and to produce a new generation of skilled personnel".

The Communist Party Group of the Ministry of Petroleum Industry appointed Mr. Zeng Qinghong as Party Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of China Offshore Oil Nanhuanghai Corporation.
