Chinese President Hu Jintao and H.E. Nong Duc Manh, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam attended the signing ceremony of the Agreement on Joint Exploration in the Agreement Areas in the Beibu Gulf of South China Sea between CNOOC and Vietnamese Oil and Gas Company.

October China National Chemical Construction Company (CNCCC) merged into and became a subsidiary of CNOOC.

The second phase of Dongfang 1-1 Gas Field, the largest self-operated gas field of CNOOC Limited offshore China came on stream. The gas field can produce 187 million cubic feet of gas per day. Three wells were producing gas in the second phase, yielding 35 million cubic feet of gas per day.

April CNOOC Limited, through its wholly owned subsidiary CNOOC Belgium BVBA, signed an agreement with a Canada based company, MEG Energy Corp. (MEG) to acquire a 16.69% stake in MEG. The Company paid 150 million Canadian dollars for the stake.

CNOOC-Shell Petrochemicals Co., Ltd. commenced commercial production. The petrochemical complex possesses an annual production capacity of 800,000 tons of ethylene and 430,000 tons of propylene. It can produce around 2. 3 million tons of petrochemical products each year.

March CNOOC Limited made a new discovery in well Bozhong 28-2S, with a daily production of 1,900 barrels of oil and 2 million cubic feet of gas.
